When it comes to nonfiction, I rarely give books a full 5-star rating. Most of my top ratings are reserved for classic pieces of literature like Les Misérables or The Lord of the Rings, books that have stood the test of time and left a lasting imprint on readers. So, when I tell you that Sincerely, Stoneheart by Emily Wilson Hussem is the best nonfiction book I have ever read, I mean it with the highest regard. In fact, it stands as one of the best books I’ve encountered in any genre, and I truly cannot recommend it enough.
First, I have to express my gratitude to Emily Wilson Hussem for not only writing this incredible book but also for allowing me to read an ARC. I know how precious an early copy of a book can be, and I am beyond thankful that I had the opportunity to read Sincerely, Stoneheart ahead of its release. While I often find myself making highlights in books I really enjoy, I found myself putting this one down for a while because every single page had something worth noting. Eventually, I gave up trying to highlight every profound thought and simply let myself absorb it in its entirety.
Premise
The central premise of Sincerely, Stoneheart—a demon guiding his replacement in how to lead a woman away from the Gospel—might sound unsettling at first, but it serves as a brilliantly unconventional way to explore deep spiritual truths. The demon’s thoughts, manipulations, and strategies highlight the deceptive tactics of the enemy, while the contrast with the woman’s faith and resilience shows the power of the Gospel. This book doesn’t offer easy answers or sugar-coated solutions; instead, it dives into the realities of spiritual warfare, the importance of staying grounded in faith, and the consequences of straying from the truth.
Unmasking the Enemy’s Lies
One of the most striking features of Sincerely, Stoneheart is how it pulls back the curtain on the spiritual warfare many women face, from the messages that culture bombards us with to the quiet internal doubts that often go unnoticed. Hussem uses the demon’s perspective to show how deeply the Enemy seeks to entangle women in fear, comparison, and insecurity. But this isn’t just a book about identifying problems—it’s about providing real solutions. The spiritual battle that Hussem illustrates is not one women have to face alone. The book equips readers with the armor they need to stand firm in their faith, calling out the Enemy’s lies and replacing them with the unshakable truth of God’s Word.
Empowering Women with Truth
Sincerely, Stoneheart doesn’t leave readers defeated or discouraged; it empowers them. Hussem’s approach is not only illuminating but also encouraging. She emphasizes that women are not helpless in the face of these attacks; rather, through God’s grace, they have the power to stand firm and embrace their identity in Christ. The book challenges women to reject the distractions and false messages they’re bombarded with daily and step into the life of freedom, joy, and meaning that God has intended for them. The message is clear: the Enemy may try to enslave, but the truth of the Gospel has the power to set women free.
What makes this book so impactful is its ability to speak to the very real, very modern struggles women face—without watering down the seriousness of spiritual warfare. Hussem’s narrative offers practical and spiritual insights that feel relevant and urgent, without compromising on the gravity of the battle. This book isn’t just a one-time read; it’s a tool for personal reflection, growth, and ongoing spiritual resilience. Whether you’re struggling with insecurity, seeking clarity in your purpose, or just needing a reminder of the power of God’s truth, Sincerely, Stoneheart provides both the wisdom and the encouragement you need.
Final Thoughts
Sincerely, Stoneheart is a must-read for any woman who wants to understand the real battle for her soul and how to overcome it. It’s a book that illuminates the lies, unpacks the tactics of the Enemy, and most importantly, equips women with the truth that will empower them to live with confidence, joy, and freedom. Hussem has created a powerful, timely resource for women who want to embrace the fullness of their identity in Christ and reject the distractions and lies that keep them from living into their calling. This is a book that will challenge you, encourage you, and most importantly, remind you that no darkness can stand against the light of God’s truth.
